About Peter

Peter Zimmel is currently the Program Director of the Representative Farms Project for the Food and Agricultural Policy Research Institute (FAPRI-MU). He received a bachelor’s degree in Computer Science in 1988 and a master’s degree in Agricultural Economics in 1994 from Texas A&M University.

Peter has been with FAPRI-MU since September 1996. He works with producers across the state to collect farm-level data to build and maintain a set of representative farms in Missouri. This data is combined with the aggregate outlooks produced by FAPRI-MU to show the financial health of Missouri agriculture. Peter also works closely with the staff of the Agricultural and Food Policy Center (AFPC) at Texas A&M to maintain and enhance the set of 100 representative farms across the country.
